One of the finest single pieces of art from a Rothschild collection - Vermeer's The Astronomer - is a treasure among treasures at the Louvre.

The Rothschild Miscellany - the most lavish of all Hebrew illuminated manuscripts - is now in The Israel Museum, Jerusalem.
